Picasso Art Endures and Leads Art Lovers into New Collections
Pablo Picasso is timeless and cutting edge artist whose work is never out of place in any gallery or home. Museums around the world have purchased his art and increased his presence.
A new phenomenon occurred in 2003 when the Guggenheim Hermitage Museum displayed at The Venetian Las Vegas. The Venetian Las Vegas opened an art exhibit named “A Century of Painting: From Renoir to Rothko.” The collection displays some of the Guggenheim’s best works from the 19th and 20th centuries including paintings by Cézanne, Chagall, Gauguin, Kandinsky, Kokoschka, Matisse, Miró, Modigliani, Monet, Picasso, Pollock, Renoir, Rothko, and van Gogh. It is a bold move in the art world for a major Casino to exhibit major world-class art along with their other distractions.
The ability of The Venetian to combine world-class art with fine food and a five star casino and resort brought many new admirers into the world of important art collecting. The Guggenheim Hermitage Museum is venture between the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, Russia, and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation in New York. The exhibits are changed approximately twice a year and include selections from the collections of the Guggenheim and Hermitage museums. The Guggenheim’s innovation and creativity depart from the old style of exhibiting art in a predictable manner and blaze a new path for the art scene. His vision expanded the viewership of fine art in a novel way. Bravo!
Art aficionados can only hope that other museums around the world like the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles and the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art will expand their art into new venues and joint venture arrangements around the world and develop new groups of art lovers everywhere. There is not a more talented group of men and women than the people in these museums and others sharing their love of art with others. The New York Metropolitan Museum of Art has many wonderful Picasso paintings in its permanent collection. The Picasso exhibit by the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art brought an international crowd to see the range of his work this summer and some of the world’s best Picasso art ever seen in one place. The current Picasso exhibit with 150 pieces of art graces the Seattle Art Museum until January 17, 2011.
An interesting combination that I would love to see is the display of Picasso or Chagall in the lobby of the symphony or opera. The lobby of world famous medical facilities like the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota and the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio are potential targets for interesting art venues.
